About the Computer Literacy Programme

The Computer Literacy Programme was initiated by the Government of Tamil Nadu in government colleges in the academic year 2000–2001 to improve computer literacy among undergraduate students from non-Computer Science disciplines. The programme is intended to provide students with the computer knowledge and skills needed for academic progress and employment opportunities.

Initially, a separate laboratory with 25 computers and supporting equipment was established. A certificate course was conducted in collaboration with NIIT, Vridhachalam, for a contractual period of five years. In 2005–2006, the laboratory and its equipment were handed over to the college by NIIT. Since then, the college has continued providing computer literacy training to eligible first-year undergraduate students.

According to the supplied CLP programme document, the one-year course fee is ₹1,000 and the course comprises 90 hours of practical training and 60 hours of theory. An examination is conducted by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai, upon completion of the course, and successful students receive a certificate.

Benefits of CLP

  • Classes are conducted with six qualified staff members.
  • A common statewide examination is conducted annually by the Directorate of Collegiate Education.
